What I Ate (on) Wednesday & A Running Surprise

Morning friends!!

I hope you all had a wonderful evening! I have been working on a craaaazy report at work, so I ended up staying a bit late at the office again last night.

Proof that government workers really do work ;)

Thankfully I am not carpooling right now, otherwise I would be taking LOTS of work home with me every night. This way I can stay at the office until I'm done what I needed to get done...or the lights go off. Which they do at 6pm.

Womp, womp.

I had another great bike ride home, I never get sick of these views

A Running Surprise

So, I had a bit of a YOLO moment today.

Someone posted on fbook that they were trying to sell their bib for the upcoming Army Run, and I found out that two of my besties are running it together, SO I had a major fomo (fear of missing out) meltdown...and bought the bib!!

So, without very much training (I'm trying to remember the last time I did a 10km run...nothing is coming to mind), I'ma run the half marathon with these lovelies

My fav running buddy/partner in crime, from our half marathon in Toronto May 2013

Me and las chicas during our epic camping trip at Sandbanks this summer before a hike.
I'ma run on Sunday with Laura (to my right) and Dannie (at the far right), so happy :)

I really don't have any time goals, I'm just planning on going out and enjoying myself with a couple of awesome chicas, and hoping my YOLO spurr-of-the-moment decision doesn't end up similar to this...

What I Ate On Wednesday

So, usually these posts are a 'What I Ate Wednesday', meaning they are actually posted on a Wednesday, but I'm still learning...amiright?!

Anyway, here's a little snapshot of a full day of eats for me. I didn't snap pics of the chips that I grabbed from a colleague who also had to stay late to work on a similar report. Solidarity, right?

Breakfast

I made a protein pancake this morning, covered with raspberries, coconut flakes, and maple syrup

Mid-Morning Snack

I eat so early in the morning that I usually don't make it all the way to lunch - I usually eat my lunch at around 1pm. Today, I had natural greek yogurt with frozen fruit (defrosted at this point) and a bit of maple syrup

I ate a handful of cashews before my run at lunch hour . After my YOLO moment, I decided it would be a good idea to run off a bit of pent-up energy ;)
They are salted, but I didn't realize that when I bought the box of them and I don't want to waste them, but I would def prefer unsalted
I probs ate double the amount of this, I gobbled them down quickly haha

Lunch

Post-run, I gobbled this salad beast down that I made with lettuce, kale, 1/4 of an avocado, crumbled feta, and a veggie burger

Along with a peach

And a whole wheat wrap

And a couple of pieces of dark chocolate (70%) to satisfy my sweet tooth ;)

Afternoon Snack

I am notorious for just bringing straight-up veggies, not cut, to work to eat with hummus. My colleague came by my desk one day as I was eating a huge carrot with the leaves still on it. Loves it.

I also had an apple so that I didn't follow my colleagues lead and buy a bag of salt'n'vinegar chips

This is why its SO important to have ready-to-access healthy snacks at work, otherwise its so easy to submit to the snacking urge and just go straight to the vending machine.

Preparation is the best way to achieve success :)

Dinner

I had a big bowl of my ginger and heritage carrot soup, along with steamed cauliflower because it was on the verge of going bad. I hate wasting food that I buy - I'm still trying to adjust to buying groceries for only one person - so I sometimes have a bit of a random dinner to make sure I use everything up before it goes bad.

And a cookie - my roomies are always baking and cooking delicious treats
and leaving me some to test...I feel so spoiled!

With a cup of tea before bed :)

Question of the Day:

  • Do you keep track of your daily eats??

As I mentioned in my Focus On Food Journal post, I find it a really helpful way of keeping track of what foods I'm eating to fuel my body and keep me accountable to my fitness goals :)
